HISTORY

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Kang Jin Woo has always been a quiet person ever since his parents can remember. He grew up with a family of his parents, older brother Jin Young, and his grandparents in a well-to-do family with a good reputation. But after watching Jin Young drop out of school right before reaching university when Jin Woo was 10, he has felt pressure from both his grandparents and parents to do well in school. Shortly after his brother had dropped out of school, the family discovered Jin Young had become a gangpeh (gangster) and was involved with a local underground Korean gang that was notorious for its money laundering. The family, finding most of its saved money had disappeared thanks to Jin Young, immediately disowned him and moved to Busan (South Korea) in efforts to escape the constant negative attention they were receiving.

All the family's honor rests on Jin Woo's shoulders, and while the burden is incredible, he has since learned to cope with it. Because of his constant studies and advanced reading that he's forced himself to do, he has had a very little amount friends and hobbies. His one goal is to leave Korea, and eventually attend an ivy league university in the United States of America. His first step? Second Heaven.

PERSONALITY

His brother's decisions have always had an impact on him. From when he was younger and being egged on to steal from nearby groceries "for fun" and "to be tough", Jin Woo has somehow convinced himself that he will be everything his older brother was not. He will gain family control when he is older, and after he's completed university in the States, he plans to return to Korea to help his parents and grandparents. He likes to think ahead. He likes things to be set the way he sets them. The unknown and unexpected makes him uncomfortable.

Jin Woo has tried to be the most obedient son, compliant with the respects that his parents have instilled in him. Their support means a lot to him, and while they're not exactly a close family, he still has a sense that they are 100% behind him, especially after losing Jin Young. Somewhere in Jin Woo's plans is one to find his older brother, maybe, and to help him, but that is left undecided for now.

He has a hard time getting along with other people, especially those his own age. Instead, he prefers to read or study. One thing, though; he has had a passion for soccer ever since the World Cup 2002 came to his homeland of Korea.

Why Second Heaven?: His one goal is to leave Korea, and eventually attend an ivy league university in the United States of America. His first step? Second Heaven. Additionally, he grew up with his grandparents telling stories of when the Japanese had forcibly gained control of the Korean peninsula, since they had lived through it. Though these were heavily negative, they've somehow sparked his curiousity in the country and its history. Since he doesn't have a good grasp on the language, Second Heaven is his best bet.
